PRINCETON, N.J. (May 19, 2008)-The Morgan State women’s track and field team scored 30 points and finished 11th overall at the ECAC outdoor championships this weekend hosted by Princeton University.

The Lady Bears have been living by the adage expressed all year by coach Ralph Jones, ‘It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish’ and the Lady Bears are starting to realize what that means, as the team continues to improve on their times and distances as the championship season gets underway.

After a disappointing indoor finish, the Lady Bears’ 4x400 relay team, which consist of members; Avionne Sloan, Ashley Hines, Tanisha Kendrick, and Vivian McCollum vowed to not let history repeat itself during the outdoor season.

Four weeks ago after winning the ECAC relay title at the Penn Relays, the Lady Bears captured the 4X400 title at the ECAC Championships on Saturday, May 18, in a national qualifying time of 3:40.89 in the pouring rain.

The Lady Bears showed a preview of their dominance the day before when they ran almost the identical time to secure the fastest qualifying time. They outdistanced themselves from the closest team by 2-3 seconds which in track and field is a huge margin of victory.

Freshman Tanisha Kendrick who ran on the victorious relay team took home all ECAC honors as she finished runner-up with an NCAA qualifying and personal best time of 54.02 seconds in the 400 meter run.
